Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using any part of the localnode.app service ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the Service.

2. The Service

localnode.app provides free subdomain registration and DNS record management under the localnode.app domain. DNS records are propagated via Cloudflare's global network. The Service is provided free of charge for personal and non-commercial use. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers or modify the free tier at any time with reasonable notice.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for:

• Providing accurate and current information during registration.
• Maintaining the security of your password and account credentials.
• All activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorised it.
• Promptly notifying us at [email protected] of any unauthorised use.

Each person may register one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent limits is not permitted.

5. Acceptable Use

You may use the Service for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:

• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
• Infringe the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any person.
• Transmit unsolicited bulk email (spam) or other unsolicited communications.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers, networks, or connected services.
• Use automated scripts or bots to create accounts, claim subdomains, or otherwise abuse the Service.
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate any person or entity.

6. Prohibited Content & Activities

Subdomains and DNS records under localnode.app must not be used to host, distribute, promote, or facilitate:

• Malware, ransomware, spyware, viruses, or any other malicious code.
• Phishing, credential harvesting, or other social engineering attacks.
• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content that sexualises minors.
• Illegal content under the laws of Australia, the United States, or the country of the user.
• Harassment, threats, or targeted abuse of individuals.
• Content that promotes or incites violence, terrorism, or hatred on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
• Fraud, scams, or deceptive practices of any kind.
• Unlicensed distribution of copyrighted material (piracy).
• Cryptocurrency mining without the explicit consent of visitors.
• Spam infrastructure, open relays, or botnets.
• Any activity that violates Cloudflare's Terms of Service, as the Service relies on Cloudflare's infrastructure.

This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. We reserve the right to determine in our sole discretion whether any use violates these Terms.

7. DNS & Subdomain Rules

• Each account is entitled to a maximum of 5 subdomains.
• Subdomains are non-transferable and may not be sold, leased, or assigned to another party.
• We reserve all subdomains listed as reserved in our system. Attempting to register a reserved name will be rejected.
• We may reclaim any subdomain that has been inactive (no DNS records, no activity) for more than 180 days.
• Subdomains found to be in violation of these Terms may be suspended or deleted immediately and without notice.
• You are solely responsible for the DNS records you configure and the services they point to.

8. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account and delete your subdomains at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. Upon account deletion, all your subdomains and DNS records are permanently removed.

We will not be liable to you or any third party for suspension or termination of your account.

9. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without any uptime guarantee. We may perform maintenance, upgrades, or emergency changes that temporarily interrupt the Service. We are not liable for any losses arising from downtime or service interruptions.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, localnode.app and its operators disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or that any defects will be corrected.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall localnode.app or its operators be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, for a free service, is zero).

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
